The New Center
Our brand new center for animals, which opened in March 2008, is centrally located, easy to reach, and better able to serve the entire greater Charleston area. We are located on Remount Road near I-26 and the airport.
The new center is designed as a warm and loving place for the animals and for the people who want to adopt them. There are comfortable get-acquainted rooms for prospective guardians to meet pets, play together and find that perfect new family member.
Charleston Animal Societys state-of-the-art center has the best features, technology and amenities to ensure the pets are happy and healthy during their stay. These features include: climate-controlled rooms and pens, lots of natural light and windows, access to fresh air and sunshine in the enclosed outdoor exercise and play areas for dogs, and on-site medical equipment and rooms. Specifically, the center has:
o 140 kennels and an open play area in the cat condominiums
o 162 kennels in the dog dormitory
o Small animal room for bunnies, guinea pigs, snakes, birds and other small animals
o Separate adoption areas for different types of animals
o Surgical suites with an adjacent veterinary office
o Spay/neuter clinic
Located on a five-acre lot, it has 31,000 square feet of interior space more than twice the capacity of our old Leeds Avenue facility.
The new center is designed with the community in mind:
o Families and friends can host birthday parties and picnic on the lawn
o Organizations can use the meeting spaces and education room
o Groups can host events on the grounds and in the facility.
o The education room is a large, multi-purpose space for public education, particularly for children to learn about animals and how to care for them.
o
Charleston Animal Societys new home is truly a community center and an invaluable public resource for Charleston.
