Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
Since 1984.
What is your primary product or service?
Paintings of the Lowcountry and of Venice, Italy.
I also conduct sketching or watercolor workshops in the U.S. and in Venice.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
I'm an artist that's been painting for 36 years and I've been teaching workshops for 33 years. I also serve as juror for art guilds.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
There are truly many wonderful artists in the Charleston area. Most all of them are oil painters. I began in watercolor 36 yrs ago, and still prefer watermedia of all kinds over oils. Watercolors allow me to be spontaneous...there's a transparency and glow I can achieve with layers of color that is not physically possible in any other way. Note that I varnish my finished pieces so that no glass is required on the frame.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
I'm represented by the Mt. Pleasant Artists Guild Gallery and by Xanadu Gallery (Scottsdale, AZ). I also sell my work online (www.helenKbeacham.com) or by appointment from my Studio in Summerville, SC. (843-408-5240)

What type of payments do you accept?
All major credit cards, checks and cash.
Which areas do you service?
In addition to my original paintings, I am often asked to paint a special commissioned piece for that spot that requires extra attention. I can also offer limited edition reproductions of many of my paintings. I teach watercolor and sketching workshops around the country and overseas.
Who owns your company or runs daily operations?
I do. I wear many hats (each a different color!)
What are your hours of operation?
I have no storefront, but I'm happy to take calls during normal business hours in my studio.
What is the best compliment anyone can give you?
Your paintings make me feel tranquil.
What is your favorite quote or Bible verse?
"The knowing eye watches, sharp as a needle. But the pictures come clear out of instinct."
D.H. Lawrence in "The Creative Process"
